Links to the Church

Jesus said: ‘I have come that everyone may have life and may have it in all it’s fullness’

John 10:10

St. Leonard’s Church, Dunston

Miss Phillips lights three candles in Worship to represent: God the Father, Jesus the Son and The Holy Spirit

We are a church school and have strong links with St Leonard’s Church, Dunston.  We regularly hold collective worship in school and the children take part in various services in the Church at Easter, Harvest and Christmas where parents are welcome to join us.

SIAMS inspection focuses on the impact of the Church school’s Christian vision it has on pupils and adults. This involves looking at the school’s Christian vision, the provision the school makes because of this vision and how effective this provision is in enabling all pupils to flourish. SIAMS inspectors do not look for a set template of what a Church school should be like, but rather take the particular context of the school into account and base their evaluation on the outcomes rather than the process.

School Chaplaincy

St. Leonard’s is excited to be embarking on a new journey, one which we hope will be an invaluable contribution to the school’s Christian distinctiveness and vision. Many of you may already know me as a fellow mum but for those new to the school, my name is Stacey Trumble and I have been volunteering at the school now for about 3 years. As a devout Christian, I try to live my life as faithfully to God as I can which has led me to this new position as a ‘Hang Around Ministry’ school chaplain. What this means essentially is that I will be spending my time literally ‘being present’ in school to build relationships with the children, their families, and staff and to be there for those who need a listening ear, encouragement and support.

My role is not to have an agenda, it’s not to be the moral policeman, it’s not to force faith upon anyone and it is certainly not to judge. However, I will endeavour to be the living demonstration of the love of Christ and the unconditional acceptance and grace that he gives. In other words, I am here to be kind and to be a faithful friend.

Jesus, the bringer of light said “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28). This right here is a chaplain’s role, to serve in this same way and to seek to be more like Jesus. So, if you need a safe pair of ears to talk about anything at all come and have a chat. I will be in the school on FRIDAYS BETWEEN 2PM AND 3PM, come find me, I’ll be hanging around.

What makes us distinctive at St Leonard’s C.E First School & Nursery?

Our school is governed by the six core values which can be rooted in Biblical teaching that underpin our daily existence at school and hopefully also at home.

‘Let all that you do, be done in love’

Corinthians 16:14
