ECO & Gardening Club

Welcome to St Leonard's Eco Club.
Here at St Leonard's we aim to educate and aid children in all things Eco!
We hold an Eco club after school every week where children learn how to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.  They also learn about endangered animals species not just those in other countries but importantly those native to the United Kingdom.
We make many things from recyclable items such as milk bottle feeders, hedgehog houses and greenhouses from plastic bottles!
We also maintain our Sensory and vegetable gardens learning to look after plants and vegetables encouraging them to grow.
We also have a 'forest area' where the children learn in a natural environment.
All the children are welcome to join in with Eco Club, if your child would like to join please speak to the School Office who will add your child to the club register.
Perkins Stafford Eco Award Winners 2019
Children from years 2,3 & 4 took part in this years Perkins ECO awards to design and make a 1m x 1m globe to highlight their chosen ECO issue from around the world. Our winners Amelie and Ruby chose to highlight global warming and deforestation. The children made the globe structure from Willow that was harvested from our willow fedge that surrounds the school pond. They then covered this in an old blue plastic sheet and cut out the continents and poles from recycled green and white bags. Years 3 & 4 have been learning about electric circuits within science so the children wanted to incorporate this into the design adding in solar panels and LED lights to highlight the countries that were discussed in class, and in the children's power-point presentation at Perkins. The children did amazingly well and came 1st!! Winning £1000 pounds to be spent on new ECO projects around the school and a wildlife camera that the children intend to place inside one of the many bird boxes around school and hopefully live stream the bird action directly to our school website.
CPRE Award Winners - October 2018
We have been awarded the CPRE award (Campaign to Protect Rural England) for our efforts to support native and rural plant species and animals.
Perkins Stafford Eco Competition - 2018
Miss Maaskant and Mr Waters had the pleasure of taking six children from Class Pluto to the Perkins Eco Award Ceremony to present our 'stained-glass window' entry.  We are delighted to announce that St Leonard's came second and as always, our children delivered an amazing presentation and were perfect ambassadors for our school.  The prize money will once again go towards developing our school grounds to further develop our ECO vision.
Congratulations to all the children for their inspirational ideas and artwork and to all parents for providing recycled plastic lags and bottle.
Well done children we are so proud of you all!
